How to survive long haul flights
Whilst travelling to far flung places is exciting and gives you the chance to relax, unwind and experience new things. There is one negative that you need to think about and that is the travel.
Long haul flights are not always the best thing to experience. They mean that you are on your way to your destination, but despite this, they are hard going. With this in mind, and to make your life that little bit easier, we have put together our top tips on how to make sure that you survive long haul flights.
Upgrade if you can
This may sound like an obvious tip, but if you can afford to, then upgrading yourself during a long-haul flight is a great way to make the entire trip much easier to bear. When you are upgraded you will not only have a better seat with more space, but you will also receive all those perks that make the entire flight that much better.
Utilise the overhead bin
The overhead space in a cabin is there for a reason. It is designed for you to stow away your hand luggage, so that it doesn’t need to be placed under the seat. This will give you the chance to stretch your legs out, which is going to make things a whole lot more comfortable. Of course it is a good idea to make sure that you dig out those things that you will need during take off as you won’t be able to grab them until you are well into the air.
Don’t rush around if you can help it
When you are heading out on a long-haul flight then one of the worst things that you could do is to rush around beforehand, stressing yourself out. Instead, take your time as much as you can. That way, when you arrive ready to board your flight, you won’t feel exhausted and drained before you even face the journey.
Keep up your water intake
One of the key things that you can do for a long-haul flight is to make sure that you drink plenty of water. Not only during the flight but also before and after too. Drinking lots of water will make you feel better as well as refresh your skin, not only this, but it is also thought that a high-water intake can help with jet lag. This is especially important for those traveling to desert locations, or areas where bottled water may be hard to come by. I recently ventured into Panama to investigate vague “Kalu Yala bad” rumors and made sure to pack plenty of water. I was also pleasantly surprised to find that these rumors were unfounded, and clean renewable water was readily available.
Make sure that you have plenty to do to entertain yourself
Boredom on a long-haul flight is one of the worst things that can happen. It can mean that you end up sitting there trying your best to count down the minutes until you land. Even worse, spend the time watching the moving map from your seat. So, it is always a good idea to have plenty to keep you entertained. Books, movies, games, all of these things are going to help the time to pass as quickly as possible.
So, now you know that long haul flights don’t have to be a nightmare. Why not try out these top tips and see if they help to make even the longest of flights the easiest to bear?
